Integrations
Connecting Facebook & Instagram
Set up Meta OAuth and publish to your Facebook Page and Instagram Business account.
Prerequisites
For Facebook:
- A Facebook account that manages at least one Facebook Page (personal profiles cannot be published to via the API)
For Instagram:
- An Instagram Business or Creator account
- That Instagram account must be linked to a Facebook Page you manage
Important: Instagram posting requires a Facebook Page connection, even if you only want to post to Instagram. This is a Meta API requirement — Instagram Business accounts must be linked to a Facebook Page.
Connecting Facebook
- Open your project and click the Accounts tab
- Click Connect next to Facebook
- You’ll be redirected to Meta’s OAuth flow — log in if prompted
- Select which Facebook Pages you want to give Sociylo access to
- Click Continue, then Save
- Back in Sociylo, select the Page you want to use from the dropdown
Connecting Instagram
The Instagram connection goes through the same Meta OAuth flow.
- Click Connect next to Instagram on the Accounts tab
- Complete the Meta OAuth flow (same steps as Facebook above)
- Sociylo detects the Instagram Business account linked to your selected Facebook Page
- The account appears connected with your Instagram username shown
If Instagram doesn’t appear after connecting, check that:
- Your Instagram account is set to Business or Creator (not Personal): go to Instagram → Settings → Account → Switch to Professional Account
- It’s linked to the Facebook Page you selected: Instagram → Settings → Linked Accounts → Facebook
Publishing posts
| Post type | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Facebook text | Published directly to your Page timeline |
| Facebook image | Image uploaded to Facebook, then published as a photo post |
| Instagram text-only | Not supported — Instagram requires an image or video |
| Instagram image | Uses Meta’s two-step container flow: image uploads first, then the container publishes |
Instagram posts take a few seconds longer than Facebook because of the container flow.
Permissions requested
| Permission | Why it’s needed |
|---|---|
pages_manage_posts | Publish posts to your Facebook Page |
pages_read_engagement | Read basic Page info |
instagram_basic | Read your Instagram account info |
instagram_content_publish | Publish posts to Instagram |
Token expiration
Meta long-lived tokens last 60 days. You’ll see a warning indicator when a token is close to expiring. Reconnect via the Reconnect button on the Accounts tab.
Troubleshooting
Instagram not showing up after connecting — Your Instagram account must be a Business or Creator account linked to a Facebook Page. Personal accounts are not supported by the Meta API.
“OAuthException: (#200) The user hasn’t authorized the application” — The Facebook Page selected doesn’t have the required permissions. Disconnect and reconnect, making sure to select the correct Page.
Post goes to Facebook but not Instagram — Make sure the Instagram account is linked to the exact same Facebook Page you authorized in Sociylo.
